We offer a stress free environment where clients can come and relax with us while we design their unique piece of artwork. We are as clean as possible, and use all disposable equipment. A tattoo is a piece of art. Everyone at Renaissance Studios is committed to this idea. We do not simply apply a design and color it in. Every job we get is handled and designed with precision and excellence. We engineer our designs to fit the canvas on which they will be placed, whether it is an arm, hand, leg, or full back piece. We do not limit ourselves to any one discipline. Instead, we work with a clients specific taste, and create their tattoo to meet their criteria. This process guarantees a truly unique piece of artwork that our clients can cherish for years to come.

Renaissance Studios is owned and operated by Allan Rivera and Joe Diorio. Allan Rivera has been tattooing for 7 years, and his talents range from portraits and black and grey fine line tattooing, to Japanese traditional and full color custom work. He has built a loyal following and, in 2012, decided to open up his own studio in order to accommodate the work load. Allan Rivera met with close friend Joe Diorio, and within months of their discussion, the two opened for business. Allan and Joe decided to create the ideal tattoo studio: a comfortable environment, a gracious attitude, and above all else, a fervent desire to continue perfecting his craft. San Clemente was the obvious location.
Black and grey tattooing has its roots buried behind the prison walls of L.A county. While prison tattoos have always been common, it wasn’t until pioneers such as Freddy Negrete came along in the 70′s and changed tattooing forever. Other artist such as Mark Mahoney, Bob Roberts and Leo Zuleta have also had a major impact on this style of tattooing.
Nowadays, black and grey tattoos are akin to a highly detailed pencil sketch where their is no limit to the amount of precision that can be achieved. For this reason, Renaissance Tattoo Studio values this style of tattooing, and continues to develop and learn new techniques for this ever expanding genre.
Portraits have one thing in common: they are always unique. A portrait is a great idea to commemorate lost love ones, or to honor those who you look up to or cherish. Tattoo portraits were not possible in the early years of tattooing, simply because the equiptment didnt allow for such details. Modern tattooing has taken portrait art straight from gallery paintings to the human flesh. At Renaissance Tattoos, portraits are a favorite subject. Come let us show you why.
Tattooing reached America primarily through sailors and traveling circus acts in the the early 1900′s. Tattoos were seen as early as 1860, when american civil war soldiers began appearing with them after returning home.
The earliest evidence of tattooing in Japan is found in the form of clay figurines that have faces painted or engraved to represent tattoo marks. The oldest figures of this kind have been recovered from tombs dated to 5,000 BC or older. Traditional Japanese tattoo differs from Western tattoos in that is consists of a single major design that covers the back and extends onto the arms, legs and chest. The design requires a major commitment of time, money and emotional energy.
